Seriously, get a .40 Smith & Wesson. Best handgun on the market.

9mm will just piss them off.

.40 S&W personal defense rounds will get you home safe.
LOL, considering 9mm and .40 stopping power with personals defense rounds are very close, sure. Spend the extra money if it makes you sleep at night.

Because people are fanboys and like to act like everything else is shite.

S&W makes a fine weapon. So does Beretta, Springfield, Ruger, the list goes on.

Bottom line is... Buy something that YOU feel comfortable shooting, that YOU are accurate with, and if you're CCing, something that YOU can easily and comfortably conceal.

My personal recommendation would be to find a range that rents weapons and fire different ones there, or find friends that own different kinds of pistols and see if you can fire theirs.

As for the round debate, any .38, 9mm, .40 or .45 is sufficient. Everyone freaks the frick out about "stopping power." If you hit them where you're intending to, it's irrelevant. Go with the gun and caliber you are most comfortable with and that you can shoot the best.

This.

Glock, Sig, S&W (not the Sigma though), Beretta, Springfield, Ruger - all solid choices. Like you said, don't buy based on what you read online. Buy based on what feels good to you

I have a .40 S&W and it runs well. When I am not working I carry a 9mm off duty as it is light and does not pull my pants down. Find something that is comfortable and that you will wear every day or you are waisting your time. A Glock 21 works like a champion but few people will wear it every day in street clothes and it does you no good in that case.

trust me, dawg, if you want to grip something that doesn't feel like a brick, spend a little extra and get an HK P40 or P2000 in 9mm. Or an HK45C

P30

P2000

HK45CT (in FDE, one shown with suppressor)

Many Feds carry this pistol and it works well if you train with it. I am not as accurate with exposed hammer double action pistols but that is because i don't shoot them often.

I absolutely love my Springfield Armory XDm 9mm. I'd recommend trying a Glock 17 as well. Personally, I'm not too fond of the full-size Rugers, or any model Beretta that doesn't start with a 92 or 96.

ETA: I didn't read the whole thread, but if you want to CC, I've heard great things about the LC9. I haven't shot it, but I've held one, and for a small gun, you don't feel like you're "swallowing" the gun when you hold it.

I have the DA/SA variant and love it! The DA pull is a bit heavy, but the SA pull is sweet

I'm not the biggest fan of striker-fire pistols, so that's why I have one with exposed hammer and DA/SA.

Just lots of practice and muscle memory bringing the hammer back.

I am more familiar with Law Enforcement issued weapons and the Feds issue the DA p2000.
