Anyone tried duck hunting anywhere out there? Might be going that way with a group of friends and was thinking of trying out there. They going deer hunting but I'd rather duck hunt.

We were there last week for the first time, just scouted the day before and picked a hole in the impoundment area. There is a solid early woody flight, then it was hit/miss. We were able to work birds, mostly grays, but they were skittish.

Did y'all use 4 wheelers or walked? Thinking of bringing mine. Oh and is the water deep?

Water can be deep in areas depending on where you hunt. They had a bunch of rain last weekend which had birds scattered in all the sheet water on the fields.
Might be slim pickens... but with the cold coming could be go.

The woods are thick as all get it with palmetto though. You need to scout vs going in blind

It's right up the road from where one of the places we hunt. Looks like it would hold a lot of birds but the birds quickly figure out where does and doesn't get hunted.

Now that much of the bottomland and ag fields are holding sheet water - I would say it would be kinda tough...

One area in particular near one of the handicap stands is very good and holds birds.. but... It's off limits.

If you want to do some scouting or at least get the lay of the land, you will want a 4 wheeler unless you want to wing it with google maps. All of the areas we checked out were 1-3 ft deep and we hunted an area right off the trail since it was our first time. We were the only duck hunters in the area we were in and I think there were two other groups shooting, so you should be able to find a spot. Don't forget your orange for the trip in and out.

I normally hunt a few lakes around the area, but lately they haven't been producing. Mostly divers. Was looking at somewhere a lil different since I know a couple of the people coming would like to duck hunt one of the days they are there.

Thanks for the heads up on the orange.

Have a camp in Tensas and would say the best time to duck hunt flooded timber is the last two weeks of the season. For some reason, dont kill much until then
