St. James Parish. Swamp deer, 7mm Mag. 100 yards.

We've been slow at work so I decided to take today off. Forgot to set my alarm so I didn't get to my stand unti 7:45. 8:15 a doe walks out and I decide to make it a short hunt. Aimed for the head and got a clean miss. I was pissed. 20 min later a buck comes out in the same spot. Smoked him. Letting him lie awhile and waiting for my dad and a friend with a blood dog.

Will post pics when I find him.

shot at a doe's head and missed? That is what he needs the dog for. Blew her jaw off and needs to find her.

Not to mention, unless you saw the buck fall down you never really know how well he is hit. Most shots are taken quickly. The one I shot last week I would have bet I would have had to track. I pulled the trigger then the deer disappeared. I heard some crashing in the leaves then nothing. When I went look the deer only went about 15 feet from where I shot the crashing was him kicking in the leaves while on the ground.

8 pt, tall and narrow. Didn't need the dog, but he's young and needs all the work he can get. Shot him through both lungs, exit hole size of my fist160 lbs. Will post pics tomorrow or this evening.

Doe was a bad shot. Not a head shot but a neck shot. She was in some brush so I was going for a clean kill or clean miss.

Here he is. Nothing spectacular but a good swamp deer for that area.

Man he is high and tight. Interesting rack Also is your blood dog part Rottweiler? Congrats on the deer. Any chance we can get a side profile of the rack?

1/2 Lab, 1/2 Bloodhound

Side pic...

You can see the gaping exit wound in this one. He was starting to quarter towards me. I hit him as close to the front shoulder as possible without touching a piece of meat. Couldn't have put a better shot on him. Bastard still ran 150 yards, but blood was pouring out of him.

I've shot a deer up the arse before. They don't tend to run when you crush all organs. An I have a feeling it's a button buck.

Guess I was wrong. Looks like a nice man.
