I think I’ve posted about here before. I inherited a Browning Safari bolt action 30-06 (1962 if I’ve read the numbers correctly). I’ve read that they sell online for about $1k-ish? Is that what I should insure it for or would it already be covered under my homeowners policy?
Also I’d like to kill a deer with is next year. If yall could recommend a budget friendly scope (maybe ~$400), I’d appreciate it.

My insurance requires an actual appraisal done for firearms. I just spent extra on a quality safe.
I’d check eBay for a used leupold VX-3. A VX-2 would be ok too, but vx-3 is better. I’ve read that the vx-freedom glass isn’t as good as the VX-2 was.

Depending on the condition can the 30-06 can go as high as 2K. That would be a NIB gun. Yours has a Mauser action. Being a 1962 it’s not a salt gun so that’s a plus. From 1965 to the early 70’s browning cured stocks on the safari’s with salt to cure faster.
Your homeowners policy is going to cover it as far as replacing it with a $500 30-06.
Great gun.

Meauxjeaux and duckhunter, thanks for the recs on the scope. 71 and Barney, thanks for the insurance info. Much obliged. You guys and girls are always my go-to for anything outdoors.

My dad has a few Safari rifles. He has a .284 Winchester magnum that is a whitetail killing machine. WE don’t use it anymore because Ammon is tough to find and it’s a pretty rare gun now. That Mauser action is a great rifle action and been around for 125 years.

Read Your Policy, every policy has different limits for firearms. Many cap loss at $5,000, mine is unlimited (Safeco). Good idea to photograph gun and serial numbers and keep in a safe place IF they are stolen or burn up. Appraisal or purchase receipt can be used for an inland marine/floater policy, typically $1.75/$100 of insured value but they usually include mysterious disappearance (lost).
