Fellow OB'ers I have the bug for one of these.... BAD. Looked at one today and have done some research. Looking at about $500 - $600 on one at 70-80%. I have other shotguns but want one of these... comments, thoughts, f.u's? Also I have some pics that I can email to someone to upload (blocked at work).

I have one that I plan on having restored soon. It's a beautiful gun but kicks like a mule!!

My grandpa and uncle have one.

They say they are a must have. A lot of people still use the old ones today to go hunting. Nice piece.

Browning must have been doing something right, they made them for over 98 years. That is impressive! Not a bad price either for a 70-80%

I've shot an A-5 since I was big enough to handle it. It's heavy and kicks pretty damn hard, but I don't think I'll ever replace it as my main duck gun. My Dad and Uncle also only shot A-5's.

We all shoot the Japanese version though. According to my Uncle the Belgian's don't like the new steel shot or something so they all sit on the wall.

I've read about this. If yours takes 2 3/4 only there should be a brass ring with a single beveled piece that fits against it. If it takes 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells you have to reconfigure the order of the beveled pieces against the brass for 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells. Also, some of the older guns have had those parts removed. Give it a look see-it could make all the difference in the world.

I have 2. One nice one that is a closet queen, and one a little rougher that I use a lot. I love mine, and I consider them a must have. I would love to get my hands on a 16 GA around that price in good condition.

This is correct. Lead shot only through the Belgian barrels.

Mine shoots 2-3/4 only, and you move the brass ring from the top of the spring to the bottom depending on whether you are shooting high brass or low brass shells.

The one I'm looking at is a Light Twelve with a full choke. It will take 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells.

The one I'm looking at still has the paper diagram inside the forearm describing that.

The light 12 is a great one. A limb saver is a good investment when shooting the 3" shells. To me, the kick is not as much a hard percussion hit as it is a gradual push from the gun. It must be the spring action that ejects the shells that does it. A 100 shot clay course wears my shoulder out. I will say this though. The A-5 can run through the shells faster than I can pull the trigger.

Mine is a 12 Magnum, full choke. It will bruise your shoulder through to the back.

Does the Magnum have the same brass rings? I need to take a look.

I have a sweet 16 that was bought new in 1967 by my grandfather. He was a bird dog man that never hunted anything other than quail. The gun never had a sling, therefor his natural hand print wore the blueing off of the receiver. You can actually see each finger mark on the gun. Out of all the guns I own this one is the most special one to me. When I think of my grandfather an image of a weathered man holding that gun at the ready standing behind a pair of pointers is delightful yet sad at the same time.

Too heavy to tote in the turkey woods. I carried mine yesterday and it was the last. I will be toting the 870 with a sling this afternoon. It's a good shooter though.
