Thinking about getting into bow hunting. Any recommendations for a compound bow for someone who has never shot before?

PSE, you can probably find a nice used one half price from someone that didn't find the time to continue

If I had to do it over, I'd look for a used one that was tricked out already, at a reputable bow shop.

I bought one with a package, setup to go, but I've slowly upgraded a lot of the parts (rest, site, cable slide).

I bought a mission bow earlier this year and have enjoyed it for an entry shooter. They're a company that is produced by Mathews.

I got a mission as well about 2 months ago. It's my first and I've really enjoyed it.

How much for a used bow just to get started?

Do bow shops have them from trade ins?

I had a bear years ago that I loved just shooting. Would love to get another bow just for target and maybe even hunt with it a little.

I too have the PSE 2016 Brute Force in Skull Works camo, great bow, easy to shoot, very effective.

If I was just getting into it, I would find a used one at a pawn shop. (Eta : A decent one, not some ancient aluminum arrow slinger)

Take it to a bow shop and buy a dozen new arrows. I'd think most bow shops would look it over good, tune it up and help you get started for the price of a dozen arrows.

How far are you going and do you have to take it with you each hunt?

I'd personally go lock on and climbing sticks. Friends of mine like millennium, I don't have any experience with them.

Buy a midline new bow from Bear or PSE before you buy a used bow. Being new to archery you won't be able to work on the bow yourself and you may regret buying used and not having a warranty.

As far as stands/sticks, for a mile walk I'd recommend Hawk Helium sticks paired with a Millennium lock on. You can't beat Millennium stands for comfort.

My setup is a M100U with 4 Hawk Heliums and I can get 20' pretty easily.

A few of the Mission bows are fully adjustable without a bow press.

My girlfriend just got into bow hunting and she got a diamond edge sb-1. It's a badass little bow for anyone. It's adjustable from I think 7-70 pounds and 13-30" draw length. You can adjust it yourself at home. The ibo speed is 310fps if I remember correctly. They're made by bowtech. The package was $400 from Cabelas and came with a good sight, but the rest isn't my favorite. I would change the rest to a drop away and leave everything else the same. I would look into it. It's a bow that you can start with and adjust the weight up with an Allen wrench as you progress.

There are tons of nice used bows for sale. A friend of mine just bought a used but fully rigged Mathews z7 for $500. Bow, arrows, case, sight, rest, release, everything. If you look online, you can find a lot more like that.
