If I found them I would prob break out the gun and add, then stop and check for heat build up very often. May not help but I would feel I was at least trying!

talk to Herb's Trailers on Plank rd....Vortex hubs are super lube hubs...You can get the same type of hub from Herb's for a lot less...

What type of hub you use doesn't matter. It's that REAR SEAL that makes the difference. Keep the saltwater out and everything is fine. Crawl under your trailer and look at the inside of the wheels and see if you have grease splatter. Jack up your trailer and spin the tire. If you hear a grinding noise you may need new bearings. On occasion, stop and feel the barrel of your hub to see if they are running hot. Also, tire inflation is IMPORTANT! I don't want to be THAT GUY broke down on the side of the road. Just in case, I carry a spare hub. PARANOID? No, NOT ME!!

would recommend American made bearings like Timken, I got mine from Motion Industries. Almost all over the counter bearings are Chinese.

Timken makes bearings in China and in India. You will have to pull the part number to be sure but I'm almost certain only the large industrial bearings are still made state side.

the damn tire almost came off the trailer
Just a little paranoid are we. That's the beauty of a tandem axle, blow a tire or lose a hub you still have one tire to limp into civilization.

From what I've read, Vortex and Super Lube are different hubs made by Tie Down engineering. Gonna read more to see what the difference is between them, but this is what I'm leaning toward putting on my trailer.

The Super Lube hubs appear to have a grease zert on the rear and when you pump grease into it, the old excess grease flows out the front. So you can basically repack them without having to remove them. I like that. The "spindle" has the zert at the front.

Gotta read a little more on the Vortex to see what's the deal with these.
