I inherited a 15 FT fiberglass boat with a 40hp Johnson when my dad passed a few years ago. I never have the time to fish so I am fixing it up to sell it. When it was last used it ran perfect when I took it out on the river but hasn't been started in over two years. I put new batteries in today and got it to catch one time but then died and I haven't been able to get it to fire again. I am assuming the carburetor is probably gummed up and needs to be rebuilt. It looks as if this motor has two carbs on it so anyone have tricks to get the boat to fire without disassembling the carbs? I did drain all the fuel and put new gas and oil in.

Did you check to see if your plugs have fire? Most likely you will have to pull the carbs and change out plugs.
