Boat Launch stories

Lets hear em.
Sweetwater Marina in Delacroix,3 old guys were launching an aluminum 21' with a new 150 Yamaha 4 stroke.
One guy is holding the bow rope while another guy is backing the boat down.Boat and motor looked brand new but evidently the owner had just got finished repainting the boat and rebuilding the trailer.
Well,he had put some of those teflon strips on the wood bunks and as soon as the boat got minus 90 degrees the boat starts sliding back.
Ole boy holding the rope starts sliding down the ramp with the boat.Me and my friend for one second try to get behind the boat to stop it's downward momentum but we get no traction with our shoes on that slick ramp and just jump out of the way all the time everybody is yelling at the driver to pull back up.
Pure pandemoneum!
Boat slides off the trailer and lands on the boat plug and misses the motor skeg by no less than 1".
I have a bunch more but let's hear yours.

I'm still a newbie boat owner so I just try to not be THAT GUY at the boat launch.
I was worried I would look silly the first time I brought the boat to the launch, but fortunately there has always been someone a lot dumber than me trying to launch one. So i pretty much looked like a pro.

Few things to take into consideration. Prep your boat before taking up a spot on the ramp. Don't take up the entire ramp. Stay to one side. Turn headlights off if possible (keep parking lamps on) so you don't blind people when backing down. Do it quickly and efficiently. Should take less than a min to back down, launch, and pull out to park if u have someone to drive the boat
Eta: ok maybe a couple min if you're at a difficult ramp or you're in a truck u can't see shite in :coughtundracough:

I actually untied one guys rope at Rigolees one time while his boat swung out blocking the entire launch.
He saw it but the had bait and ice to get.
The rest of the people at the launch applauded loudly as his boat drifted towards the back wall.

Was sitting in the boat watching people launch, getting ready for a Big tournament on the AR river. Boats were stacked on the edges, just leaving the ramp open. Well, someone forgot to release one transom strap. As the boat released, the driver felt it was off, and gased it forward. The boats bow turned sideways, being pulled by the strap, and went right across the top of another "parked" boat. Destroyed the shield, electronics, and significant damage to the parked boat. There was also a plugless boat that was sunk at the ramp, and 2 boats that were ghost launched, on that tournament. It gets crazy when people get excited, and in a hurry.

Nothing major - just the usual lack of consideration and acting as they're the only ones launching a boat that day.
Now, I've launched without the plug...but I didn't block the ramp or hold anyone up.

<-- 16 yrs old, dad's boat. Drunk with friends. Backed trailer in to pick boat up and exitted the truck while leaving it in reverse. Thankfully I left the door open which hung up on the pier. Door and front fender got messed up but it kept the entire rig from going into the bayou. Tied the door shut with a rope and headed home.
"Dad, we have a little problem". "Oh yea, what kind of little fricking problem do we have?"

In Venice one nice fall morning I was waiting for my brother to park the truck. I watched these guys attempt to launch a bass boat (go figure....a bass boat) and of course they thought they were at the Classic.
This guy is sitting behind the wheel and as he is getting backed down he starts the motor (before he's in the water) the boat hits the water and you hear Runnnnnnnnggggggggg runnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg, the boat won't come off the trailer, he yells "back up sum mo" wahhhhhhhhhggggggggggg wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhggggggggggg the boat lurches in the front but doesn't come off.
By now I'm in tears laughing because the driver backs up even more and the motor is almost covered in water. I get as close as I dare and tell the guy. "It works better if you unhook your back straps dude" I pickup my brother and leave.

Didn't they try to get it on plane?

my dad and i used to rent a place at the coco marina just for watchin fools in the morning before we went fishing. I remember many boats dragging their twin 300s along the concrete up there. And there should be a class for people buying big boats on how to properly back one in

Calcasieu Point Landing - Big Lake. This guy parks his truck & trailer directly in front of the boat ramp. This parking area is for vehicles without trailers & is used by folks fishing from the pier or the bank.

I left the transom saver strapped to the motor once. It wasn't pinned on the trailer so it just pulled right off. Don't remember how I realized it was on there still, but I didn't try to take off.

Saw two black fellas,"yes they were at the boat launch and yes they were still wearing their big poofy orange life jackets" trying to pull a big arse 25' Hydrasport on the trailer at the Sulphur Mine launch.
One fella hooked the winch strap to the hook on the boat but guess he didn't know to pull the strap under the front roller and not over.
Winched that bad boy up to where the front of the hull was hanging 4" above the trailer bunks.
Everyone at the launch waiting to land their boats were laughing hard.

One of my buddies tried to jump off the front deck onto the pier and didn't quite make it at bayou corne. Newton's 2nd law kicked him in the mouth. Belly flopped his fat arse in the water with phone and wallet in pocket. I was laid out across the leaning post incapacitated from laughing so hard.
Fishing by myself out of stringer bridge. Days over. Haul arse back to the boat launch skint back. Get there, tie up boat, go get truck, back up truck get back in boat. Of course there are 3 or 4 people waiting to pick up also and the ramp is only big enough for one. Water is very low and I can barely get the ends of the bunks in the water. Start driving toward trailer and boat just takes a hard left turn and I can't do anything about it. Steering cable broke. Take out of gear but front of boat goes under pier and tears up trolling motor. Took me and one random guy 15 minutes to get that damn thing out the water.
