my old man has decided he wants to sell his 16' aluminum duracraft with a 75 hp Yamaha. He is the only owner is it is a 95 model. I would have to do about $1000 of work to it to get it to the way I would like it, because it has zero storage, no live well, and the seating arrangement is weird. The trailer is not that great either.

On the other hand, a guy at work has a 2006 (I believe) 18' sea fox center console with a blown engine. This boat is nice and has a new trailer and a canvas top. I realize I would have to replace the engine, but he is looking to get rid of it for cheap

what does the OB suggest?

what type of fishing do you want to do?

If FW and marsh, I'd stay with the duracraft

If Sw and specs, I'd move to the seafox.

probably a combination of both. I have used the duracraft in the marsh around dularge and it did fine. it just needs some work it get it to where i'd like it to be.

if your dad's motor is a '95 model, it may go at any moment at any rate. i would get the sea fox and get a new motor if you can afford that option. you'll have a lot more capability in terms of fishing.

if you're planning to do a lot of duck hunting, the duracraft may be a better option though, since it's a lot lower profile and easier to camo (you may want to repaint if it's bright red or something).

and if you're strapped for cash, your dad's boat + $1000 is still going to be waaaay cheaper.

i'll probably never duck hunt out of either boat. and I agree the 95 Yamaha has a questionable future. It does have low hours, but who knows when it will go.
