Which species of duck do you refer to as a blackjack? Scaup or Ringneck? (SW LA)
Which species of duck do you refer to as a Dogris? (SE LA)
As well as blue bills?

blackjack = ringbill = ringneck
dos gris = bluebill = scaup
"dos gris" literally translates to grey-back. A ringneck has a black back. A scaup has a grey back, hence scaup = dos gris.

From an interested observer outside of the regions:
Ringneck = Ringneck, but if using a nick, it's Blackjack
Scaup = Scaup. No nick ever used.

great clarification. One other nickname we call dos gris is "dogs" for short........"hold up, don't shoot, it's dogs!"

Never heard of a ring-necked duck called a blackjack.
Always called scaups dogris.
