The trait for melanism was derived from dogs a long time ago. Male dogs mated with female coyotes and the hybrids backcrossed into the coyote population.

The wolves that originally lived in southeastern North America were probably just primitive dog x eastern coyote hybrids.

Probably no such animal.

Red wolves are just hybrids between wolf and coyote or coyote and dog.

Is it bad that I had the same first thought.

There is no consensus on that.

quote:

A comprehensive review in October 2012 concluded that the red wolf is a distinct species which diverged from the coyote alongside the closely related eastern wolf 150,000-300,000 years ago

In 2012, re-analysis of the 2011 SNP study argued that the original SNP study suffered from insufficient sampling and noted that gray wolves do not mate with coyotes.[11] Another Y-chromosome genetic study in 2012 also argued that the eastern wolf and red wolf are not hybrids but rather are a distinct species from the gray wolf, although eastern and red wolves do intermix with coyotes

I may not have quoted from all of them. There are more.

That's what I have always heard. Red wolves are around but have some mix blood now.

This has no business here but I'm gonna rant. I always hear racist called cowards because they don't openly display it. If you do then you get banned, fired from your job, or ostracized in some other way. I kinda feel like I'm being discriminated against and bullied because I'm predjudice. That's bullshite

I am right there with ya bud, this world is full of hypocrites and pussies.

We are ruled by about 18% of the pop. 1.7 of pop. are figs and 16-17 are black. Publicly go against one of those two and you can kiss your arse good bye.

Oh quit with your ridiculous persecution paranoia.

Black people and homosexuals do not rule over you just because they have equal rights.

There is no genetic evidence whatsoever for a unique species commonly referred to as the red wolf.

Have seen a black yote a few times over the past couple years near the house. Almost hit him one morning as he was trotting across the road with either a squirrel or a rat in his mouth.

SOB was solid black from head to tail. Been trying to tell people that and no-one I know of has ever seen a solid black one other than myself
