I recently received a gun from my grandmother. Older gun was sold to my grandfather. He has since passed. My grandmother passed it on to me. How do I go about registering the gun? Do I need a bill of sell from my grandmother?

Why would you register it?

Just wondering if it even needed to be done. Thinking about getting a concealed carry

Don't register it. That way if the government ever try's to take our guns they won't know you have it!

Not sure what you mean by older gun, but I would be careful with using an older gun for conceal carry

Not sure what state you're in but in LA it doesn't have to be registered even if you use it for CC.

if you are in a state that recognizes the constitution there is no such thing as registration of a handgun. If you want to carry concealed you can obtain a license to do so but it has nothing to do at all with any particular firearm

you have a right to bear arms
bear them

Go to local sheriffs office and ask for form 1735-Z. Real simple form, just needs notarization.

Most states don't have registration. You can still do a bill of sale of you want but it is not required.

There's no registry in LA. Gun's yours

Not only do most states not require a registry, most don't have a registry if you wanted to register a gun...

I agree with the above, however a bill of sale or act of donation won't hurt. You'll have proof of the date it became yours and the date she no longer owned it.

Registration isn't a thing in LA. If you are in another state, answers may differ

If you plan on concealing this, make sure the handgun has a firing pin that is mounted to the inside of the receiver and not directly on the hammer. If the firing pin is on the hammer, you have to carry with one empty chamber to assure safety.

There are plenty of other better options for concealed carry out there. But if you simply just want to start somewhere, this is an okay choice. Just not the best choice...
