Big Branch - duck hunting?

I've hunted a couple spots in Big Branch for deer, but never went into the marshy portions. Never duck hunted in my life, but looking to give it a shot for the 2nd split.
How do-able is it out of either a kayak or hiking in? Am I going to sink up to my knees every step if I try walking in with waders or is the bottom somewhat solid compared to typical southeast LA marsh? Any tips?

coworker is from nearby, asked him the same questions recently. he said kayak or pole pirogue is do-able off the gravel public roads. You see a lot of ducks that are on their way to Delacroix/Venice areas. You may get 2-3. You will always get checked by LDWF. All in, he said its a lot of effort and having green jeans breathing down your neck everytime makes it not worth it if you have somewhere else to go.

I've got a good bit of experience in there out of a kayak. Very doable.
Hiking in doesn't give you many options, unless you're talking about kayaking to a point on the beach and then walking in. But strictly walking from lake road, you won't have much luck.
There are definitely spots that you will sink, but most of it is pretty walkable. Just watch those ponds, there are some deep arse holes.
I'd get out there EARLY as you will be competing with other kayakers/piroguers for easy to access spots.
If there isn't much cold weather then I would limit your walking because if the grass hasn't died off, it's almost impossible to walk through a lot of it. You will sweat your arse off and your legs will be on fire because you can't just trudge through it, you have to bring you legs up over the grass.
Bring something to sit on if you can. I bring a bucket with a seat, but fill it with water because I usually sit in the water and it will tip over when you stand up to shoot.
Get as far away from the launch as possible to avoid the as many sky blasters as possible.
It can be a good time as long as you understand you probably won't limit out and you will be dog arse tired when you get home.

I've never been checked. Probably hunted it 30 times in the past 3 years. I guess I should add that's probably because they stay busy with the guys further away from the lake. I've never seen them in the turnaround at the end of the road.

Not asking for anybody's honey hole, but which launch would be my best bet....Lake Rd, Bayou Cane, or the canoe launch at the end of Sapsucker Rd?

You better have a good back and be really pissed off at the ducks to mess around in there.

I haven't hunted the Fritche side of Big Branch the past 5 years but did hunt it a lot in college and before I had a boat. I got a few limits over the years out there but I would get 2-3 every hunt. It's going to be mostly divers but teal and big ducks show up randomly.
The more you go and try different areas the better you'll do. I was never stopped by green jeans and have had my decoys shot at out.
