I think mine has the 3.55's, not sure though.

Always get 18+ under 75.

I mean, I can get 19 if I hold my mouth just right and don't play the radio.

I've got 3:73s. My best trip hand calculated to date was 20mpg on a tank, this was a trip from Lafayette to Venice where my average speed was 55-60 due to horrible weather the entire way. I wish I had 3:55s as the engine makes more than enough power to make up for the higher gearing.

I've been rocking the shite out of that camper top by the way. I'll usually take it off/put on as needed but I've grown used to being able to lock everything in my bed with no worries.

Yes, OEM Turbo failed. I forget mileage but was probably mid to high 100's IIRC. Dude works with it, pulling small tractors and other equipment, i.e. not a hot rod coal roller. I think he said his truck has the higher-speed rear end but pulls great due to what is it, 6 speed auto in those trucks? They're nice but damned if I can get past the window sticker.

True.

They get an extra 2 mpg once you peel the window sticker off.

So it sounds like 2011 or newer with the 6.7. Are the 6.2 or 6.8 gas engines worth a flip?

Back in the early 90s my dad had a 7.3 single cab that was an absolute beast. I learned how to drive using that bad boy.

I like 'em OK, but if I was going gas in a 3/4 ton, I'd go GM 6.0.

On a 1/2 ton, I'd go GM 6.2.

I would really research this first. The DPF seems to be more of integral design element of the Scorpion so I just don't know, long-term, what the effects would be.

The majority of issues I've heard of w/ the 6.7 have been on the commercial side, in the 350 and 450 series and a lot of those guys do deletes. They also run the piss out of 'em, so it's kinda chicken and egg.

Agree.

There's never been a turbo made that likes to idle.

Everything on those engines hates idling. Don't do it.

I wouldn't delete anything on an engine with urea injection. Run it like it's meant to be ran and you won't have problems until the DPF cloggs up, and that won't happen anytime soon if you run it right and maintain it right.

The current 6.7 is probably the best diesel ford has ever had. Power is great, mileage is decent, it's been around long enough to get the gremlins out. I would either buy a 2013+ 6.7 or hunt for a 7.3, which will command a very high price if it's in good shape.

The old ones weren't all they're cracked up to be. People drove less in the 90's.

i have an 03 7.3 that just rolled 200k. It's fully loaded (in 2003 terms) and still in excellent shape. Leather is still immaculate. Driver seat shows wear but not torn or anything. Never done anything but change tires, oil, and filters. I want to get rid of it and get a year old or so 6.7, but i just can't let this truck go. It's a part of me!

get a Cummins or a Duramax

Problem with those is the rest of the truck will fall apart around it. Had a 2009 with Cummins and everything around the engine was subject to failure. Multiple times in the shop to fix more minor issues.

Have a 2015 6.7 now and I love it. Lots of power. I pull a 13k fifth wheel and it moves it around like a raped ape. Way more torque and HP compared to the older Cummins. Right now averaging 16.7 mpg in mixed driving and 11-12 mpg while pulling the fifth wheel.

The Chevys won't fall apart. Nobody argues about duramax because there's nothing to argue about. They're fantastic.

All of the engines out right now are extremely good.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm not looking to pull the trigger just yet. I've always been a F150 guy but I would like the extra space, etc. I had a 2002 FX4 crew cab that was the best truck I ever had. Shouldn't have sold it.
