Best Way to Hunt Wood Ducks

My deer lease has a fair amount of Wood Ducks that nobody ever hunts. I've heard of people just creeping Woodies and blasting them that way.
Is that the only way? Do you need decoys?
I've only hunted big ducks so Woodies in Creek Beds/Timber is new to me. TIA

Kind of hit or miss. Sometimes a mojo works real good for them. I'd try to find the best spot beforehand, setup with mojo and a couple decoys. After that first flight you could try to stalk them.

I used to have a flock of them fly over my stand every evening heading to a small piece of flooded timber on our lease. I loved sitting in my stand and listening to them splash around and cut up in the water. I didn't see or hear them last year. Anxious to see if they're back this year

We've got some woodies on our place...when we've got water in the sloughs, at least.
We've only got a few locations in the woods that they like to fly into from roost first thing in the morning. Most of them are old logging roads. So, I'll set up in one of those holes with a decoy or two or none, doesn't seem to make that much of a difference. They're coming to those spots anyway.
They usually start flying right at shooting time, but they don't fly for long, 15 mins or so. There is a lot of action, but it's over quick.
You could probably stalk them, if you don't get your limit, but I prefer to just hop in a deer stand immediately after.
Don't over hunt those holes, though. They'll shift their patterns with a quickness.

Ground check 'em.

The 3 can be any combination of drakes & hens, I'm pretty sure. After a few hunts, you'll probably be able to pick out the drakes. But those little shits are pretty fast & it can be difficult to differentiate between the speeding black streaks.

Even though I will be shooting lead shot, guess you can't help some people.

1.Find where the oak trees are along the creek.
2.Walk in perpendicular to the creek at the oak trees.
3.Get just close enough to see the edge of the water on the opposite side. If there are ripples on the water, step forward and blast away.
4.Back up 50 yards or so and walk to the next oak tree and repeat. It shouldn't be hard to get a quick limit like this.
We used to kill the shite out of them like this around Mansfield.

Walk quietly up to the bends in creeks. Stay away from the straightaways.

Absolutely not. Wood ducks have their minds made up on where they are going. Best thing to do is scout the day before and see where you jump some, then go the next morning and sit under the oak they were by and blast away.

Does your property flood? Put lots of corn on the edge of a flood zone. When water rises, sit and wait.
If not, just find a good, secure place where they're flying. Then dump corn

well if you are hunting with lead shot and after shooting hours, what the hell

i wouldn't use decoys unless you want to set up a jerk string, besides that i would get to short/stubby branches, and when you hear them flying over throw it in , the splash will make it sound like other woodys hitting the bayou and they'll circle back and land. I've killed manyyyyyyy wood ducks

A good wood duck shoot when absolutely nothing is legal is a thrill....I've heard.

With an 8 gauge automatic loaded with 5 rounds of lead shot, from a sink box, an hour after sunset, over a pond with a ton of corn, with a group of live decoys...glorious...
