I've caught fish ripping heavy jigs in hydrilla, but lately can only get a bite by Carolina rigging in it, which is kind of a pain. Going to try 3/4 oz punching next time to see if that makes a difference.

Any other suggestions on getting fish to bite that are in the thick stuff?

How much room between top of grass and the surface?

If it's deep hydrilla, Rat-L-Trap. Shallow hydrilla, buzzbaits and heavy Tx rigs and jigs.

I was going to suggest slow rolling a spinnerbait and ripping it. Chatterbaits are also a favorite of mine. I have caught some good fish on a wacky rig over grass too.

Yep, those will work too. Everyone has their preference. More than one way to skin a cat.

punching on braid with a missle D Bomb and enought pegged weight to get it though the top...I've been catching them jigging the bait right up under the bottom of the vegetation...I'll drop it to the bottom...jig it a couple of times then pull it up and bump the bottom of the stuff a couple of times then pick it up and pitch to another spot...
un-weighted space monkey over the top has been working early and late...
any color as long as it's watermelon red...

Sometimes switching to a smaller profile bait will work. I like to fish a tube when it gets tough. Peg a heavy weight or even lighten it up a bit. Caught em both ways. That tube slides easily through the thick stuff.

I have water intrusion in my trolling motor. Hopefully I can fix it this week. If so, I will see you there.
