So pretty much what you guys are saying is that someone needs to invent a a combo transom saver that both serves as a wedge and supports the foot of the motor from the trailer.

I hear ya bud. I'm only basing my knowledge on years of towing boats, owning boats, racing boats, building boats, and repairing boats. Spent years on the road helping out APBA hydroplane and outboard race teams along with OBDA teams. Spent 3 years working for Titan Powerboats repairing boats and motors along with build their 22' modified tunnel hull.

I've seen both work and either is better than none. But, I've also seen the wedge cost people money. Replacing transoms is a pain in the arse and not cheap.

From another board...

quote:

there is only one way to take the weight off the transom .from motor to trailer .i cant believe anyone would buy something that merely locks the motor to itself.it is still beating the hell out of the transom when going down the road. preschooler could figure that out .
I guess he's trolling?

I have read, but not confirmed that some OEMs specifically say foot to trailer. Bass Cat being one of them.

yours may be long side up. A lot are on the side and bounce pretty easy. Jump on them next time you unload.

Likewise. For some reason I thought you were younger. Weird how that works.

Whatever makes you feel better. I will let you know when I have a transom go out. None so far but I've only owned about 6 boats through the years so who knows.

There seems to be be much confusion on wether the traditional transom saver is needed or not. Since most all of us agree that BassCat is on the leading edge as far as resins/manufacturing techniques is concerned, I thought it might be helpful if Rick or someone from BassCat could address this issue.

From BassCat Total Performance Bass Boats

quote:

Transom savers: YES DEFINITELY YES! No matter the boat. Also run tie downs straps for safety.

Most individuals are only thinking about the individual singular movement of the transom. This is correct if you only look at individual usage, without realizing the multiple flexing of a 500 pound hunk of aluminum and steel on the back. For hours and hours and miles and miles on the road, bouncing, bouncing, bouncing. Yes, topping waves applies quite a bit of stress to the transoms, though not as many multiple times.

We really don't like the newer models which hold the motor brackets either. Though they are better than none at all.

Last, have you ever heard of a transom saver damaging a transom? We haven't... Gearcase paint issues yes, transom damage no.

So our call, run the transom saver and be sure it is fastened well, preferably to the trailer. You might even have to strap the steering wheel, or sleeve the hydraulic cylinder in place to prevent movement of the motor.

Back years ago, we too once said it wasn't necessary, though after years building boats and of seeing lots of various boats and motors, we obviously have changed our opinion, and that we changed a long time ago.

Transom Saver, Yes!

I was just curious. Your post read like you were older and you seem to just assume things about posters. Wasn't sure why I thought that.

Like someone in your other thread posted, not sure I would want to buy a boat from anyone who recommends that

Bass Cat has survived many another company. Just sayin...

Can you at least admit it is an issue over which reasonable minds could differ?

Fwiw, I was bored and called another boat company, blackjack. You may have heard of them.

They basically echoed bass cat's stance. The other kind is better than nothing but they recommend the strait to trailer traditional style.

Langston and his made up boat manufacturers: still 0

Coon, Alex, et al, blackjack (bill Kenner), bass cat: 1

Absolutely. I dont think either is bad like I said in the beginning. I also agree with the post on the other site that way mnore stress is put on a transom doing 70 in a good chop than driving anywhere.
