Hey y'all. Been reading this site for about 6 years but never needed to post because someone always asked the questions I needed.

I have a 9.9 mercury outboard motor and I was wondering what size aluminum boat would be best. Also, who has the best prices or has one themselves they are looking to sell? Would ideally be used for fishing in rivers, big lakes, and hopefully duck hunting. Thanks y'all!

Isn't that one fiberglass? Is that more durable than the alumacrafts?

I really don't know much about them. I just know that they seemed to be loved by people who use then and they are supposed to do very well with minimum power. Durability wouldn't concern me unless you're dragging it over oyster reefs all the time or something like that.

I would look at 1436 aluminum, gheenoe highsider or nmz, riverhawk b52, towee, or saltmarsh 1444.

I ran a 9.9 Johnson Seahorse for years on a 1436 jon boat, and it got the job done while fishing oxbow lakes.

I wouldn't go any smaller.

How did it fair in choppy water? I don't want to have to freak out every time I catch a bigger boats wake in the atchafalaya.

1442. Don't go with a 36" bottom. The wider 42" bottom will help you get up on plane and go faster and the boat will not rock as much. I have a susy 9.9 and it runs around 20mph with just me.

When it comes to boats, wider is always better.

I'm pretty sure wider boats are slower than narrow boats. You get on plane quicker, but your top end isn't as good.

Here are some vids of 9.9s doing work. They might help you decide what you want or need. I would ditch the 9.9 and get a 25 on a 1448 or 1548, you'll have much greater range and still not break a budget. Something like that can be had for a few thousand of you look.

Gheenoe 9.9 (1)
gheenoe 9.9 (2)
gheenoe 9.9 (3)
1442 9.9
1436 9.9

saltmarsh 1444.

Looked at one of these the other day in Golden Meadow. Awesome concept, but whoever built it must have broken up with their girlfriend that day. It was hacked together. After all the shite my buddy is going through with his Ankona right now, I would avoid them until they get their issues sorted.

It depends. If you duck hunt more, get a 14', but if you fish more get a 12'.

I think you need a 12'.

If you put it on a 14' you'll be pushing water like a river barge with any kind of load and wondering how much faster you could have gotten there with a 12' up on a plane.

I would say 1436 as already mentioned. I have a 1232 that is rated for a 7 and would be down right scary with a 9.9 hell it is a handful with the 7hp longtail i have on it now.
