Where are the best places in South Louisiana?

What types of traps & bait do you use?

Bring cash. Tony's on Plank Rd.

You'll come home with some everytime.

Don't know if it is best but the South Farm of Sherburne opens up in March for crawfish. You need a 4 wheeler for access to the flooded fields.

Not sure how close you are to Houma, but I normally start seeing a lot of people crawfishing in the bayou that runs along Highway 311 (near/in front of Ellendale Country Club) about this time of year.

I don't know if it's stil a good place to go or not but I went to Ramah as a kid. Caught tons of crawfish out there. That was also 15 years ago.

You can catch them behind the levee after the water comes up and goes back down.

Best crawfishing I've ever done as far as nets go.

Thanks, I wanted to take the kids somewhere last year but I've never done it myself. I really need to take them this year.

Is beef melt still considered the primo crawfish bait, and where can I get some decent crawfish nets.

I use beef melt. If they don't have any (last time I went they ran out last summer) I get beef tongue. I can't remember who my dad got his nets from. Our first set were from academy, they didn't last but 4 years or so. The ones we have now are deep water nets that were hand made, I wanna say from a guy in chackbay if I remember right. Can't remember the price.

As do I.
I know most grocery stores have it but you'll need to axe the butcher for some.
Scallans Meats on Airline towards Plank sells it wholesale by the case.
That's where I get mine.

Also,be warned.
WMA's and people without commercial trapping licenses cannot use deep water nets.
Only those triangle type nets.

I would like to get a nice set as well........I have a dozen of the deepwater nets, and about 3 dozen of the Academy nets. I'm thinking about pitching the ones from Academy and getting some that are made from the heavy twine.
