I am interested in getting a female Chessie puppy, but I need info on where to buy a little bitch with great hunting bloodlines. Anyone on here with helpful information?

I have a mans buisiness card at my house that breeds, trains, and runs chessy's in HRC hunt test. I do not know much about him except he runs some nice dogs in the hunt test. I will find his name/number when I get home a post it here. Good luck.

Thank you. I've been having a rough time finding legitimate breeders of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers with a field trial or HRC background.

yup their chessies are about the best you can get around here....

nationwide though top breeders are in PA and NJ...

whatever you do... though... check the american chessie clubs info on a genetic issue with a line that produced and awful lot of chessies.. good ones.. but.. a genetic issue has exploded in that line..

Dug this old thread up-- it popped up when I googled Brousseau Retrievers.

Do you think there is a large diffrence between these dogs and a breeder from up north? I sure like the idea of being able to drive over and see the guys dogs, and maybe get some help if I ever need it. Seems like he offers good health guarantees, etc. do you have any more info on the health issue you mention? Is it CDM?

I'd be looking for a hunting dog/ family dog. I never have done tests, etc. and although it seems pretty cool I'm not sure I'd be able to make a serious attempt at those type of things.

DM is the disease....and it put a lot of chessie breeders out of business..a lot of top chessie lines

In fact I think three of the last four top FT chessies all had it..

Doesn't mean all chessies have it though...

After what we went through

If I were getting another retriever it would most certainly be a chessie...

But I would make certain neither parent was a dm carrier

I've actually talked to Terry Brousseau before, and I think he said he has his breeding pairs tested for DM.

Have you seen any dogs from his lines? Any thoughts?
