Best charter for Bull Reds

I had a client ask if I might be able to recommend a good charter for bull reds out of south Louisiana and what time of year would be the best time to go. It doesn’t have to be a specific location. He is wanting to get his teenager on some good fish. The young man loves fishing. Thank you for your help!

Venice in August. Kasey, Southern Delta Charters, can get it together. They have a place you can stay and can put you on Bulls when the time of year is right. Last summer, we caught probably 30-40. It was a blast. It takes 10 min to reel them in. Most fun Ive had fishing, but we didn't take much fish home.

This is a thing? Dont get me wrong, it's fun and I actually enjoy it. But any charter I've been on has been a spec trip with a stop at a pass or cut that holds bulls. Sometimes specs aren't there and we ended up as a bull red trip, but never had one be purely booked for that purpose. Capt. Coon in Cocodrie (think he's at Tradewinds now) could always at least put us on that even if everything else was shite that day. As long as crab was available. Fighting bulls on spinning equipment with 12 lb test will fill up a morning.

I really never target bull reds we just catch them when fishing in the summer time. However I had a friend of a friend stay at my camp in Venice and they fished with Mike Frenette and he had a bull red only trip they were very happy with.
I would think anyone could put you on bull reds in the late summer-winter. Bull reds come in to spawn during that time and bull reds are your spawning stock. They are VERY pelntiful in the passes and outside that time of year, and for the most part catching a bull red isn't rocket science it's just knowing where they are.

Fun to catch, but you can only keep 1.

most will put you on bull reds as others said they aren't that hard to find
I'd rather trout fish and make a stop towards the end and catch 3-4 bulls rather than a day full of bulls

I kept one around 25 pounds in September
our camp neighbor has this board that acts as a cage to keep the fish still while you clean it (couldn't find a pic)
we cut straight down and ended up with big hunks of good clean meat
that was probably a terrible explanation, but ill try to find a pic

There are plenty that'll do a good job, but here's a second for Capt Charlie and his guides. Were going with him in about a week.

Redfish Lodge won't disappoint. Mike Frenette and his son know where the reds are and his wife Lorrie will prepaid one hell of a meal.
I've been 3 different times and will probably take the grandson again this fall.

Mike Frenette out of Venice. He will put you on beasts. I saw a topwater show he did for the outdoor channel. They had one close to 50".

true story.. good dude with a professional outfit, he's definitely a hoot. Known Boola for years.
Capt Bobby Warren Adventure charters out of venice is also very good, especially if your more interested in "bass fishing" them in the ponds and on artificial. he's not a shrimp under cork kind of guy.
Venice Charters Brent Roy can also get you on a serious fish kill
