Anyone know anything about Pontoon boats? Pros and cons? Wouldn't mind doing some fishing with the boat, but the main use will be booze cruising. Thoughts suggestions? thanks!

Pros:

Affordable
Simple
No frills
a monkey can operate one
You can party like a mad man

Cons:

Look like trash
they sit high on a trailer and on water, so consider storage
slow speed usually

Any open water is going to beat you silly. They make fast ones but you are going to pay. I often seen pontoons with 225 hp around the house, there is one with duel motors, perhaps duel 200s...

Saw one being tested by a dealer, twin 300's. top speed 70-75. Little excessive but hey, money's green.

I know a guy that that has a camp on the Diversion Canal that has twin 300's on it. I guess if you have money to blow, why not. It's pretty funny watching a party barge go flying by a cigarette boat.

If you're not in a hurry, blow boats are not bad.

I'm with Sid. My answer when power boaters mock how slow I'm going is always, "Race you to Hawaii".

Take a look at the party barges with fiberglass v hulls. They run much better in rough water. You'd be able to cross Pontchartrain in that. A buddy of mine attempted a poker run in a pontoon boat. It acted like a huge shovel once he hit some choppy water.

I've seen a couple pretty sweet night fishing set ups on a pontoon boat with big lights set up on a couple of the corners. Almost makes me want to get one
