I recently bought an M9 from a buddy and it came with a pair of 10 round clips

Beretta factory mags are over $30 each. Which aftermarket brand should I look at for some 17 rounders?

Midway has 15 and 17 round factory mags for $25 usually.

Get ads from CDNN regularly that advertise "Original Manufacturer" 17 rd (?maybe 15?) for $20. I guess by using original man statement they are saying they are not marked as made by Beretta.

I think Mec-Gar used to make Beretta mags.

If you can still find OEM Italian made mags stamped "PB" (which I presume stands for Pietro Beretta) you'd have the best odds of reliability.

FWIW Cabelas was selling NIB 15 round factory mags for ~ $40 -- not sure if they still have them. That's not cheap, but if you're ever gonna use that gun for defensive purposes, and considering that mags should last "forever," I'd pay $40 for reliable mags before I'd pay $20 for used mags of questionable pedigree.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to use it for. I bought it as a favor. It might end up loaded on the nightstand where my 3" GP100 has been hanging out the last few years. I'd like it a lot more if it had 17 in the hole instead of 10.

I've shot the gun a bunch and like it. I can shoot it very well. I just had never noticed it had 10 round mags till I went to load it a little while ago. I had just left cabelas too

I don't have a CCL and will probably never carry the gun. I probably won't shoot a box of bullets through it honestly.

Gonna need a holster for this big arse hunk of gun also.

Mec Gars are gtg. Can usually find 15 round ones for around $20 +-. They make 18 round versions also that are considered solid.

Figure there had to be somewhere to find some GI mags.

Man, I had several milk crates worth of USGI M9 mags in the truck a week ago. USGI mags have been made under several manufactures and none are better than the other with the exception of the more recent versions with a different coating for high dust environments. Put in an order to Beretta for the "D" spring kit, skeleton hammer, and extended mag release, and then order a set of grips from VZ.

Just checked, mine are all checkmate and airtronics, all were brand new and function fine.

Just have to keep and eye out, I haven't looked for them since I don't shoot that pistol much and am good with the mags I got.

I ain't doing all that man. It'll probably get bought back from me in a year or so.

Even if I never load the damn thing, it's bothering me that such a big 9mm is in my safe with only a 10 round mag in it. You could fit 10 .44mag bullets in that grip.

If you get new mags for it, get the Mecgar 18 round M9 mags. They are excellent.

The factory "17" round mags that came with my 90 two in 2011 will NOT fit 17 rounds. It can fit 15 by hand, 16 with a mag loader (and a LOT of pressure) but it will not fit 17. The Mecgar 18 round mag is great though.

Yes, and yes. These are good suggestions as well.

You may be wrong about some things, but this isn't one of them.

No reliability issues with that spring kit? I'm always hesitant to change springs from factory.

I take it the Mecgar clipazine is about the same length as factory? I don't want an extra half inch of height added to this gorilla thing.

The DA trigger pull is pretty atrocious as it sits now. It feels much worse than my GP100. Shot it yesterday and completely whiffed my first shot at 15 yards at a Coke can.

It's probably the easiest "trigger job" you will ever do. Mine has been perfectly reliable and the DA is comparable my GP100 Match Champion. There are lighter springs available but they carry a warning for competition use only.

That's the thing though - it's still a factory Beretta spring. It's just the factory spring for their double-action-only model, hence "D" spring.

The only difference will be that it hits primers slightly softer. I can honestly say it has never hit a primer and not made it go off (except for crappy steel-cased duds that nothing will shoot).

It's actually the exact same length as a standard M9 mag. I don't know if they were able to shrink the follower or what but it can fit 3 more than my factory mags and it's the same size. I bought it at Academy.

The D-spring will drop 2-3 pounds off the DA mode and about 0.5-1 pound off the SA mode.

If you're in Baton Rouge, I have a spare D-spring I'll give to you for like $10. I bought two when I replaced mine in case I had an issue with one. It still runs like top though.

I have some GI magazines I could sell you, as I don't own a Beretta, but - one never knows what could happen in the future., does one?

I did a little reading on that D spring and that's definitely going to happen.

Why don't they use that in the DA/SA models? Something to do will military ball ammo having hard primers or something? The only things I don't like about the gun are the safety location and that absolutely ridiculously bad DA trigger.

Holy hell that trigger sucks.

It's probably just like you said, the fact that they want them to hit primers extra hard.

I'm not a fan of the slide-mounted safety either. It can be a bitch on the hands when racking the slide quickly.

I think you'll like the addition of the D spring.

I really wish it just had a decocker and no safety, sig style. I can live with it though. That's a minor gripe.

That damn trigger though.
