Has anyone purchased a puppy from this breeder in Marrero, LA. Just wondering how they are and if they are worth the money I am about to drop on one.

They are asking $1000. $200 deposit, pup will be ready for Christmas. I have second pick for a male. Not another pick for a male till mid 2012.

Ask for refferences. I have never heard of them but that doesn't mean they might not have quality bloodlines. Make sure you see the sire and dam in action as well as how they act around a non working enviroment. Paperwork can be manipulated and while titles and pedigrees do have some importance just remember everyone isn't as honest as you might hope they would be.

For that price you should have some sort of health guarantee. Ask if the sire and dame have health clearences on the following:

eyes
hips
EIC

They have health guarantees. The sire is hands down the baddest lab I have ever seen.

Never heard of them and I've lived on the westbank most of my life. That is in the higher range for a lab so I would make sure it is a quality bloodline and what the other posters have said (guaranteed health-hip displacia, etc). Most of the time, the higher quality breeders will guarantee certain health defects and guarantee it. IE. If your dog gets hip displacia(sp?) they will replace it for you.

Looks like the sire might be "Chopper" and if that is the case he is a fine animal. Which female will be the dam? Nonetheless it looks to be legit. Chopper is out of "Roux" stock which might be the nicest all round chocolate dog in recent times. You have taken on a great responsibility. Do good by the dog and you will be repaid ten fold. Good luck!

I think chickman just got one from there. There are a few posts on here from him about it.

just picked up my chocolate lab from them last friday! she is a badass, 8 weeks old now. i love her and had great a great experience using them. she sends you pictures every week of the puppies progress and everything. mine was sired by chopper.

eta: there are health guarantees, she actually told me about a guy that got a pup and it died unexpectedly (some really rare health issue) but she replaced it with one from my litter for free. hips and eyes are guaranteed as well

Post pedigree of puppy, that determines what dog is worth, not breeder. Good litters are worth that much $ but both dam and sire need to be proven with titles and history for that much, IMHO.

For $1000 you can get at least four HRGCHs in the bloodline ... I only see a single HRCH (and no HRGCHs) on the pedigree link to that site .... the price seems steep. If you want a great hunting dog, you don't need to pay that much. If you want a hot field trial dog, you can get a better pedigree for $1000. and increase the probability that your dog will reach HRGCH.

Not sure if HRGCHs and GRHRCHs are the same thing. If they are there are 3 in the pedigree. Their sire Chopper is currently working on his Grand and Master Levels and his sire Roux was the youngest dog and only chocolate to compete in Super Retriever Crown Championship. I am not to familiar with any of these retriever competitions or hunting levels but it sounds worth it to me ha. I originally wanted a pup from Wildrose Kennels in Oxford, MS but the price and waiting list was not for me.

Saw a lab for sale, about a year old, already passed some sort of field test, already trained with all the bells and whistles for a 1000.

Does 1st, 2nd or 3rd pick really matter in these situations, with my work and school schedule I have not been able to see the sire and dam and therefore don't want to put down money before i do so. I have been bumped down from 2nd to 3rd. With these high caliber dogs does the number i pick even matter. Obviously I would not want the last picks.

If it's one of Choppers pups...he will probably be pretty good!
