In town, there are several BREC parks with mediocre fishing.

Waddill Wildlife Refuge on Flannery has catch and release. Bass, bream, and catfish. It's a great place for kids to learn.

If you want to drive 30 minutes - Go towards Lafayette. Take a right off the Ramah exit off I-10, drive down the side of the gas station, go under the interstate, and cross over the levee and fish the canals there for sac-a-lait and bass. This is the edge of the Atchafalaya Spillway.

Downtown New Roads, you can fish off the public pier and walk next door for a beer after.
