Bass fisherman who use only one bait

im that guy I see all you big dawg fisherman talking about all the lures you use and catch fish, and im over here wondering why i dont use more lures. I have a few hundred dollars in lures and tacklebox that i take on every trip. I have pretty much every lure i could ever want to use. But i end up fishing the zoom watermelon seed u-tail worm with a bullet weight 99.99999% of the time! I rarely if ever change lures, and not sure when and where i should or what to use. Now every time i go i come back with a mess of fish. But i would like some suggestions on when and where to use different lures in my bag. Im going to a new lake for memorial day with the family (flynt creek water park) in wiggins ms, and never been before. i also never fish deep water, some more advanced fishermen give me some ideas on what to try and where. What and when to use deep water, what colors, etc. thanks

Do you have a good depth finder? IME fishing deep is difficult without a really good one. I think like most people I go deep when it gets hot outside.

I would fish nights around lights and main points with a black or junebug worm.
If you are gonna fish in the day time find humps, ridges and ledges and fish a 10" worm, drop shot or jig.

Do you have a depth finder? A good one makes a huge difference.
I fish rattletraps (red eye shad) in the summer, top water early in the morning and late in the evening in the summer, spinnerbaits in the spring.

Wow that brings back memories. Used to go there all the time as a kid. Dont know much about the area bud but I enjoy throwing a chatterbait or a deeper lipped crank bait in deeper areas. Keep us updated on how the trip goes

Take trick worms away from Mung, and he could not fish.

Then what are you worried about? Sounds like you're doing things right.

well i know most the places i go, and know where to fish for success. The worm gives me that. But i would still like to utilize some more lures even in those lakes. But especially when i go somewhere i have never been and only have 2-3 days to fish it, just would like to be able to be more versitile.

I'm not a 1 bait guy, but 80% of the time I'm throwing a speed craw!
The other 20% is either a spinnerbait, jig, trick worm, lizard, sweet beaver, chug bug, fluke, spook, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera

You're missing out. I'd go into how much I love that bait, but it would sound like I'm a paid spokesman.

I just don't know when I would choose one over the 11ty brazillion other baits I throw
Maybe I should get a pack for Toledo this weekend? Pull through the hay grass? Is the actual speed one the best of that grouping?

I actually have no clue why they call it "speed" craw, but the shape of the claws (same on the ultravibe speed worm) has great action and seems to trigger more bites for me than almost any other craw bait I've ever used. And their slender profile is great for working in grass. It's just personal preference. I'm sure many other craw baits get the job done just as good.

Fish with what you have confidence in. If the u'tail is doin the job, I wouldn't change a thing

A weightless Watermelon Black and Red Senko is thrown WAY more than anything else in my tackle box.
Polar Pop I tried the Black and Blue Flake, for about half the day and caught one on Watermelon Black and Red on the second cast after the swap. 90% sure it was coincidence but I haven't rigged it back up since.

I like root beer pepper, but lately only find it in the ochoa.

With most any fishing I change baits A LOT if I haven't keyed in on one in particular. A lot of the faster moving cranks and rattletraps can induce strikes by some of the more strike happy fish. If I pull a couple from one spot I'll switch immediately over to a slower presentation bait to try and get a strike from the less aggressive ones. Then I just keep moving.
This applies to my fly fishing too. I always try different depths, presentation, etc... until I get what I want. In bass fishing I always kept 2 rods rigged up to quickly switch from fast to slow presentations.
