Anybody have any tips for completely removing bamboo? Cutting down the stalks was easy, but the roots are proving to be a huge task.

How large and area is the bamboo that needs removal?

They are in a Residential backyard in an L shape along the fence line (Two 75 feet runs). There are about 15 bushels of bamboo.

Best way is to dig up as much as possible. One of my neighbors had some that got so bad they brought in a backhoe and completely dug up the section of their yard that it had infested.

you can make some awesome brushpiles with bamboo and a 5 gallon bucket.

Gonna have to dig them out. My imbecile degenerate lesbian neighbors (not that there's anything wrong with that) have let their bamboo grow into our yard and also onto the adjoining golf course and I have had to hand dig out some of that shite that crept into our yard

Is it possible to just move your house? Might be easier.

Backhoe and fire is about the only sure fire way.

I was about to plant some bamboo to get some visual separation from the neighbors. This thread is scaring me off. Is there any truth to the "cluster" bamboo that it won't invade beyond a few feet from where it is planted? Or does it all go Ninja (see what I did there?) and take over?

It can be controlled by trenching or putting in a rhizome barrier. Seems like more trouble than it's worth to me.

Plant some small evergreens instead.

There are several "clumping" bamboo varieties. Make sure to plant them at least 6-8ft from your fence, home, etc

Honestly, i've heard that if it is too think, you have to dig the stalks out, then pour a slab of concrete about a foot below the surface to keep it from coming back.
They also make some stuff where you can paint the cutoff stalks and kill then, but i have no idea what its called now.

Rent an excavator and dig up your yard. They're not going away

there is clumping bamboo, which grows outward from its original clump and is easier to control. Running bamboo is the noxious hell-spawn that gets established and can never be eradicated. it "runs" thru underground rhizomes and spreads everywhere

Napalm is about the only thing that works.

Yeah 'Golden Goddess' and 'Chinese Goddess' are readily available and max out at about 15ft. The crown can get pretty broad and are best used in larger areas. The running bamboo just flat sucks

If you have cut the stalks, I would just spray any that resprouts with roundup....I have killed mature patches by spraying with roundup and dish soap.
