I love the look of a lawn without the clippings. I grew up with a bagger on my Dad's riding mower. I'm thinking of getting a bagger for my John Deere mower. I thnk I've forgotten the pain in the arse of stopping to bag the clippings and having all those bags.

Someone talk me out of this.

FYi I'm on 1 acre.

On an acre lot, hell no. Unless maybe you have a burn pile

a bagger will fill up far too many times on that size lot to be useful...

have you thought about just mowing more frequently with a mulching mower?...

If you have that much thatch when you mow, you're doing something wrong.

True for any type of grass: you shouldn't take off more than 1/3 of the height when mowing.

Don't do it. Get a mulch kit and mow a little more often

I am honestly not sure that a burn pile would even work well with that amount of green clippings coming in every week....they would basically just have to decay due to the moisture...

If you have a compost pile, do it sparingly just to add nitrogen/carbon to it. Outside of that, I agree w/ everyone else

Bag the most important part. Mulch the rest.

This is what I started thinking last night. I really only need to bag a small part of my back yard. The back grow faster than the front. This is the reason for all of the clippings. I mow at least once a week, weather permitting.

I do have both a compost and burn pile.
FTR I have a John Deere D140
