Just another shot from our cameras to capture feeding behaviors. In view are mallards, greater white-fronted geese and snow geese feeding on corn in the Duck River Bottoms area of the refuge. The Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge is managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

Here is a sight you might see this weekend during our Bald Eagle/Waterfowl Tour. The hunters call them speckle bellies, however the official name is the Greater White-fronted Goose. We expect some cold temperatures for Saturday, but that is when they are feeding heavily on refuge fields. Corn is considered a hot food and helps warm their bellies after eating. The colder it gets, the more they want to eat crops like corn.

I like the ones of those mallards feeding in that corn field, they are barely making a peep.

I like looking for small details in the vids. Did you notice the widgeon drake walking across front and center?

Great pics and video. Disagree with that managment practice. Seems that large refuges attract large volumes of birds, which make all of them susceptible to disease and mass infection. From both a hunting and conservation perspective it seems that smaller refuges and are spread out are a better practice. Forces the birds to move and prevents mass congregation (which limits their risk to mass infection).

Yeah, kind of disheartening to see a bunch of ducks & geese feeding on whole corn cobbs a couple of states North of you.

Well yeah, in TN, or did some get tired of eating whole kernel corn and make it down to LA?
