I'm thinking about trying to drive part way to Orange Beach but leave my truck and boat trailer somewhere and ride in via boat. Anyone done anything like this?

Is there an easy place to park? Thinking maybe somewhere on the MS coast and then run to OB from there.

Am I nuts?

Wouldn’t it be easier to just arrive earlier. Like at 5:00 am?

id want to be in a 40+ foot boat to give that a go. and my guess is the boat you're talking about isn't if you're trailering it.

No 21’, I didn’t think it was that far if you hugged the coast. 50 miles maybe?

Seems like a major hassle and a lot of fuel burned just to avoid some traffic.

Yes. Just leave at a time that puts you in OB either at 10 am or 12PM to avoid traffic. Check in is usually 3 or 4, so plan on launching the boat and messing around before check in.

A 21' is plenty safe if you hug the coast - Ive run that a million times. You can go inside the ICW too. It is also a very inefficient plan, but it seems like you know that.

Easy enough if you launch from the coast in Mississippi. Last time I did it, we were in a 21’ contender and we launched from Gulfport. Cruised between mainland and the islands to mobile, headed north and hit the icw the rest of the way. Stop at lulus for a cervesa and burger, and finish up the ride in protected water.

No need to do that! Saturday is the big nightmare day to avoid because it's check-out and check-in day, so it's super crowded coming and going. If you're going during the week, either time it where you get there early before 7 a.m. and avoid all traffic or around noonish because there is less traffic because everyone's at work. The traffic during the week is not nearly as congested because just about all of the kids have gone back to school, so the traffic is only really bad around 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.
