Went to the range yesterday and had two double feeds. Both were when using the side paddle to release the action with a fresh mag. No issues in cycling. Mags are PMags.

Any ideas as to what may be the culprit? Rifle was cleaned and lubed the day before. Maybe improper seating of the ammo in the mags?

Never heard this term before.

fresh mag.

So, to be clear, you had a double feed when charging a fresh mag, in that it stripped 2 rounds off the top instead of just 1?

Was it the same magazine both times? I would suspect either:

Or, you overinserted the magazine. I've had that happen with GI magazines, a reload with a little too much enthusiasm causes the top round of a fully loaded mag to pop. But, the vast, vast majority of my double feeds have been with blanks, so I safely attribute that to the ammo. If you're not having cycling problems, it cuts down on the number of mechanical failures it could be.

Sounds like you have a faulty mag that is losing the top round when you insert the mag

I kinda wonder if your putting in one round too many. I can put enough rounds in mine to where I can't get the mag seated with the bolt closed.

Also make sure both top rounds are full to the rear of the magazine.

Are you loading your mags to 90% capacity?

A 30 round mag should only be loaded with 27 rounds.

To clarify, I was using the bolt release when adding a new mag after finishing off the previous. I said side paddle because I had been awake for almost thirty five seconds when I posted this and my braid stopped working. I am also a dumb civie semi-nube.

When I hit the release, it grabbed two rounds off the top of the mag and jammed. I most likely was loading all 30 in the mag. That might be the problem. I am not sure if it was the same mag giving me problems each time. When I go back out, hopefully Tuesday, I will mark may mags to track them. I will also only fill them to 27 and see if that alleviates the issue.

Overinsertion might be the problem too because of the BCG being back.
(Never had an overinsertion in my life due to being hung like a light switch on off.)

Thanks for the help guys( and gals maybe.)

You have a safe and happy weekend.

Yeah - 1 time is an anomaly. 2 is a trend. You don't want it to become a pattern. And $10 or $12 for a new mag is cheap peace of mind (if it is the magazine.)

I am betting this was the problem.

Loading 27 should fix it and also extend the life of the spring in the mag.

Take that mag (fully loaded) and hit the bottom on the palm of your hand. If rounds pop out without much force, your feed lips are shite. Chunk the mag
