it's time...

i have no interest in 5.56, i have several rifles in 7.62 that can dispatch zombies/pigs/undesirables. i've got an M&P 15/22 for plinking and small game. i've got an omega in jail that i'll move from rifle to rifle

primarily i want to shoot this rifle suppressed, with subsonics, but i do quite a bit of rat hunting in the offseason and thats why the 204 ruger makes me salivate a little. otherwise, 300AAC seems like the answer, yes?

i see DPMS and olympic make/sell a dedicated AR in 204 ruger; anyone got one/shoot one? any issues with autoloading that round?

I think the obvious question is how do you hunt rats?

300aac without a doubt. I rarely shoot 5.56 anymore since I got the 300. The only bad thing about the 300 is you will want it SBR so tack on another stamp.

I'd pick the .300 aac first but I might be biased.

If you want a .204, build one. Everything with a .204 would be the same except the barrel.

Suppressed would put me into recommending 300 blk, certainly.

Ammo availability would be questionable for either, but I think the edge goes to 300 blk, as well.

.204 is a high velocity round and I think that would work against your suppression intention, quite a bit.

Really? That's interesting. You should definitely make a go pro of that.

forgive my ignorance but is 300AAC loaded subsonic as a "standard" round...ie: affordable?

all of the 200+grn loads should be subsonic, correct?
about $1/round?

That is correct. It's pretty affordable considering it is a hunting round. If you use it for hunting and not a range toy it isn't bad at all. Also, all the 200+ grain bullets I have seen have been subsonic.

.300 can be found for around $15 for a box of 20 of subsonic so yeah, basically $1 per round

I load my own and have been using 208 gr. and it's subsonic.

My vote would be 300blk

He's right, the .204 is a speedster, why go to the trouble of slowing it to subsonic?, just run subs through your 15-22.

I don't think it's even possible. The most pedestrian 204 factory loads are still cruising at a cool 3900fps

Go with the 300.

I love mine. It's a blast to shoot, especially when you get a suppresser . The ammo has became a lot cheaper if you order bulk online.

if i got the 204 thats what i would do
just trying to weigh the fun of blasting rats with the 204 vs the fun of shooting 300AAC subs thru the can

i may just get a 204 ruger american for that though, cheap and easy

If you have an Omega coming it deserves to have a 300 blackout.

The .204 would be significantly quieter suppressed but no way can you get it below supersonic. Supersonic would create a very loud crack but no boom. Not sure that hearing protection is needed at supersonic but probably not a bad idea.

I shoot a 6.8 and .308 suppressed
