I dont have one, but did a lot of research a while back about putting one in the deer stand so i could search TD.
Wilson was the only one that had good reviews, but there were numerous reports of going from 1 to 5 bars. Most of the ones i looked at were 12v. havent seen researched the one for a home.

The problem there sounds like it isn't the antenna going out/in. If it is older, it probably only works on one network frequency, and that might not be yours.
In Woodville, I never really had too much trouble finding a signal on Verizon. An omni-directional antenna raised high on a pole would work well there since there are towers relatively close for every provider. A new one would work better for you
