My BIL called it a Spoonbill Catfish. I think both names are accepted but Paddlefish is the name more often used.....

They're strange looking fish.

They are indangered in Al. If you catch one you must throw him back. They don't have bones only cartiledge. And they are good to eat. I did a lot of camping on the Alabama river back during the 70s and would catch one on a trot line every now and then. I cooked them and they were good. They have been around for ever.

I've caught several. Once in a bayou and several in trammel nets in white lake a long time ago.

They're good to eat but you have to take out the cartilage backbone.

We go purposely snagging for them up in Iowa on the Demoines river.
Very good to eat and no bones!
