I don't post much obviously, but I was curious.
After two weeks out of the woods, I'm headed back this weekend to try and fill my second tag. I was wondering if the birds have been cooperating, or at least vocal?

This is my first bird taken second weekend, in East Feliciana. Hope the picture works now.

I just returned from a week in MS, and IL. Turkey hunting has been phenomenal, been passing on two year olds in LA on my home turf to try and kill an older bird. Will see last weekend in LA for where I hunt, however Kansas looms in my near future. I sure do hate to see LA end its nice going each morning before work.

I leave next Friday for 4 days in the Gila Wilderness Area to hunt Merriams. I'm beyond excited.

I'm tagged out in FL. The season ends here in 9 days; however, for all intents and purposes it ended 3 weeks ago.

It appears the unusually warm and dry weather started the breeding early and the season was over before it really got started in Central Florida. The first week was strong and declined rapidly thereafter. Turkey numbers were very good, but with the breeding activity already wrapped up it made things very tough. I've heard reports of poults on the ground from several hunters and Biologists in the area. The earliest I've ever seen them is the first week of May.

I know a few very good turkey hunters that got shut out this year in Central FL. South FL managed to get spared as their season opens two weeks prior. I managed to get my birds plus worked 3 birds with friends that ended up taking a ride in the truck.

I'm taking the next week or two off before heading to Tennessee and Oklahoma for a hunt.

Season opens tomorrow here in Arky. They'll. E thirty guys at my lease chasing a couple of gobblers. Turkey population is in bad shape here, hence the late/short season.

I hunted 16A for elk a few years ago. There was a ton of turkeys near a campground with a small lake that Fall. I've always said I'd go back some day...

Your pic isn't working for me. You might want to edit (might just be my phone)

I have made 4 hunts in south Texas, killed 3, and plan on going back next week (grad school is killing me) I made two hunts in MS opening weekend and they were horrible. I made a hunt in st francisville last week. Called in a jake and had 2 others that were OPP

This will be my second trip. The first time I went in 2009, we hiked in about 4 miles, and we awoke to 10-12 birds gobbling within 200 yards of our campsite every morning. It was amazing. I'll be sure to post plenty of pics on my return. I'll be useless next week at work because I'll be so anxious.

I'll trade you my knowledge of Gila for some knowledge on some Florida birds when I get time to make a trip down there

One of my goals for this Fall is to try to set a trade hunt thread on the Outdoor Board.

While I personally cant take everyone who wants to go Osceola hunting, I typically guide one or two hunters each Spring. We may be able to line something up for sure. I'm not batting a thousand but I'm damn close..

What I will do though, is relinquish the best kept secrets for public land hunting and obtaining trespass permits. I'll tell the OB when and how to apply for limited draw permits and in which units. The prime units will take two years to draw; but many have a nearly 50% success rate. So I may not be able to take you hunting but I can damn sure put you in the birds. The good news is a draw permit and a hotel is a hell of a lot cheaper than a $2K guided hunt and more fun too..

I'm planning on being out there in the morning.

I got my Haint in Wed and have been practicing with it. I basically use a duck feed call with it. It still isn't perfect but it sounds pretty good. Actually if I listen to me call on a recording it sounds better that I think.

Anyway, I hope it helps me get my first bird in two years.
