My LGS has a slick Mark V on it's used gun rack. Thinking about parting with my Ruger No. 1 in 22-250 to soften the blow a bit. Would be interested in first hand experience. I'm aware of the cost of WBY ammo and that 240 WBY brass is expensive.

I have a .257 wby mag.

It's a freaking laser beam.

If you're looking to shoot it a lot is probably recommend something else. They'll burn the barrel up pretty quickly. Like 1000 rounds

Don't sell the No.1. Jut buy the MkV. How much are they asking?

As far as the caliber goes, I guess it's a cool caliber and a fast 6mm but I don't see it outclassing the .243 enough to justify the difference in price for me. Obviously your call. 3500 fps with 85 grain bullets is nothing to sneeze at.

I have a WBY .257 too. Great rifle. Shoots flat and fast. I shot a doe last year at about 60 yards and it flipped her over and made her roll. Ammo is expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I wouldn't make that trade if I were you.

For a .257 wby than maybe, but not for a .240 and DEFINITEY not for a No1 in .22-250

.22-250 is far more practical than .240 for varmits, and .243 is better dual purpose than .240 just for ammo availability. That caliber costs too much to shoot for what it is IMO

Gents I already the proud owner of a 257 WBY, just have the itch to add another to the stable. I am also already set up to reload for my 22-250. I guess the single shot nature of the No. 1 is what makes me consider moving it, but it's truly a beautiful specimen (late 70's with a real looker for a wood stock). The 240 is a Mark V Ultralight model.
