Anybody grow LSU purple fig trees?

I just planted a LSU purple fig tree & was wondering if anyone her has grown them? We always had the regular brown turkey types but I thought I'd give these a try, supposed to be a great yielding tree, pest, disease, & drought resistant too. Hard to fin but finally found a couple at a Lafayette area nursery.

Have one in the house we bought a year ago. Didnt produce much and what it did was taken by birds pretty quick.

Planted one in the fall. Sounds like I need a scarecrow.

My mom had one. Made good figs, but not as tasty as the brown turkey fig tree she had. The freeze got it last year. Her other tree must have been big enough to not freeze.

Imho - Celeste does the best in the south

good trees that produce lots of big, pretty figs...don't taste as sweet as the old fashioned brown figs, though...

I have the LSU gold and it produces very well - 2 crops a year of really big sweet figs. I would think the purple would be similar.

Produce twice a year, bigger, less appealing taste than Celeste. Have both and much rather Celeste.

My dad has several LSU Purple's. He also has Gold's, Tigers, Smiths, O'Rourke's and Alma's. I personally think the Alma's and Smiths are the best, but he loves his Purple's. I believe with the exceptions of the Alma, each of the variety's listed were developed in Louisiana, so they all fair well against disease, pest, and drought.
