Anybody ever drop your rod when setting the hook

It's never been a problem before but twice in the last week, I've had my rod come out of my hands when I set the hook. Same rod I've fished with for years and never had a problem. I have a fairly new reel on it and I've noticed that it seems to kick out more water turning the handle than my previous ones. Not sure what to do at this point but I'm looking to re grip my rod although the current one doesn't seem to bad. Suggestions?

Yep, twice set hook and it slipping out of my hands and into water. Dove in and got it both times

My fricking reel fell off my rod one time while setting the hook. Still landed the fish

Same here...big arse sturgeon. I got lucky. Most prized fish around here have to be caught with barbless hooks
I saw a salmon guide lose a rod because it's like a thing where they HAVE to be on their phone. Rod slammed and he just lost it About 50 people saw it.

Too much lube. Stop trying to multi-task.

This must be contagious. I can't remember the last time I dropped a rod setting a hook but did it twice this weekend. Both times my rod and reel ended up in the water and I had to fish it out.
