Wife is trying to talk me into one. Seems like a waste of money.

Friends of mine went. Said it was great. But they also went on a regular trip there. Said that was way better.

My wife and I have been twice. Of all the cruises we've been on (11 total) it is by far the best. Really awesome.

I'm in the business.

If you dig cruising, you'll love it. If you just want to see Alaska, there are better ways. It's not a terrible experience, but you'll see limited areas of Ak. It's more about being in port and selling shore excursions.

I agree with this. Most Americans don't even know it exists, and it's stunning.

I have,LOVED IT, Glacier bay is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Untouched wilderness. I would go back in a minute if i had the opportunity. Fwiw the train ride through the Klondike goldrush national park has magnificent scenery as well. If i was back in my 20's again i would move up there without a second thought.

Yes. I'll be the first to say cruises are awful, but Alaska is a different story. Fantastic trip that I plan on doing again, someday. Excursions are excellent.

We aren't cruise people and crowds really aren't our thing. She heard that a balcony room on a 7 day gives you ton of scenery and in port isn't bad and a lot of fun. She's been on me about the whole "if we wait, we'll put it off until we are too old" kinda kick. We both love the north west and loved Montana. Kinda Alaskan fans but I think I'd rather see more of Alaska than the coast.

For those that have been how does it work? Are you in a port for a day where you can kinda do excursions?

Yes and Glacier Bay is a religious experience. Holland America was wonderful.

I second Holland, the balcony room and the excursions. Some of my favorites were zip lining in the rain forest and the serenity of a yakking trip. I've also done it without the boat, train ride up to Denali and such. They both have their place. Both trips were great and I'd easily do either again. I saw plenty of wildlife on both trips.

Off subject roger but what's everyday life like living in Alaska.

I've always wanted to visit and maybe one day move there.

Did a celebrity cruise about 10 years ago. Was great. Not the typical carnival crowd out of New Orleans.

I went in August of 1993. Departed from San Fran, Stopped at Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver, Ketchikan, Sitka, and Juneau. I enjoyed the hell out of it, but I guess it just depends what you are into.

been twice- factor in excursions about same cost as trip - dont skimp you need these to see wildlife ,fishing, sled dogs etc - ports are similiar, jewelry, souvenirs, tshirts etc - just came back from land tour with group most of us thought beautiful but too long bus/train rides- no wildlife unless you booked 8 hours into Denali- also we were on last trip of season most crew going thru the motions couldnt wait to go home
