Haven't fished this area in a few months. Wanting to go down this Friday and make a trip. Usually fish the great wall back towards the train trestles. Not all that familiar with the area, but want to learn it pretty well.

Anyone have any insight on where to fish in that area? Does the twin span hold fish this time of year? I usually put in at Fort Macomb and run from there. Any advice on fishing this area would be greatly appreciated.

I live right there and have not fished much; the water still looks like MS river water. It should clear up if the winds lay down this week.

Trout are tricky this time of year, but you can usually pick up reds in the marsh ponds between Bienvenue and Chef (Bayous Leche and Daytoe). I hope to be on the water this weekend myself.

Saw some reports from the Bayou Bienvenue Marsh 2 weeks ago with good speckled trout and some bass mixed in. Same guy went back this weekend and it was the opposite. Plenty of bass with a sprinkle of speckled trout.

Chaz Champagne posted pics of some beast trout he caught in his usual marsh spots last week (I have no idea where they are. Just that they're in the rigolets area somewhere). Then he posted some pics of some crappie he and his wife busted up on yesterday (not sure of where they were though).

There's honestly no telling what area will be good or bad this time of year and this soon after the spillway closed. Wish I could tell you where to go. Cause I'd be there also!

Thanks for the good feed back.

I will probably end up making the trip that way Friday morning. Hopefully some better water pushes in. I'll try fishing the marshes off the intercoastal out towards the rigolets.

Unless your a pro, fishing February/March in that area is like trying to find a black guy at a klan rally. I have never been successful... Maybe I'm just a bad fisherman

Hopefully I can get into some redfish. I am going to give it hell, i made a trip in December. Ended up catching about 30 trout and 5 bass.

Best shot is trying to get on redfish and sheephead in the deeper canals. Fish the bends in those canals. I wouldn't waste time on trout. It's a fools errand this time of year

What kind of bait you think? Soft plastics on the bottom? May try some top water back in some cuts.

I would fish cracked crab on the bottom or plastic under cork 3'-5' deep or deeper. Those canals can push 25'-30' deep. Find structure and/or big bends with moving water and clean water (if you can )

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Whelp, made the trip down today. It was a very slow day. Started at Fort Macomb and fished the marsh for the first hour or so, didn't land any fish there. Slowly moved down the intercostal towards the rigolets. Ran into plenty of muddy water, but was able to find some clean water back in marsh. Only landed 1 good red that i'm going to mount next to a nice speck.

Actually not too bad. At the launch they were terrible. Think the wind kept them away most of the day.
