Really wanting to get a GSP in the very near future and have always heard that the lines are not very good in Louisiana. I really want one for upland hunting, but would also be versatile enough to bring to the duck blind with me.

Anybody know of a good breeder not too far from Louisiana that I should look into? I have heard there are a few in Texas.

Six Hitch Kennels seems to have a pretty versatile line of dogs.

The only thing about using a GSP for a duck dog is that just sitting and waiting for a duck to drop isn't their strength. They like to move and hunt out their birds.

You need to decide exactly what you want from a GSP and then search breederd that breed that type of dog. Some lines are more like pointers and are not fans of the water many will retrieve but would much rather hunt live birds. My oldest came from Wildrose Kennels in Texas, he is everything I could have wanted in a GSP, but he is 14 years old now. BiggHoss just picked up a puppy from there in the last year.

There are a few people that have quality litters in Louisiana. You have to know those people when a litter hits the ground. I am not sure there are any kennels I would buy a dog from in Louisiana...

I breed GSPs.

My female should be going into heat in the next few weeks, which if that happens, the pups will be ready right around christmas, going to meet with the stud and his owner this sunday. The stud's owner said he comes from a blood line with quite a few champions. When we go meet with him on sunday i will be able to look at the pedigree and see exactly how many champions are in it.

If you are looking to get a pup sooner, I can get you in contact with the breeder we got 2 of ours from, she is located near covington.

Here are 2 pics of my female, she is on the right on the second picture.

Six Hitch Farms is who we got 2 of ours from. They are an awesome family, we are still good friends with them, and often take our dogs to their farm to run around. She puts out some awesome dogs. You can look them up on facebook.

I got mine out of Poplarville, MS. His drive to hunt is greater than my drive to hunt him, great dog but needs a lot of work and exercise to stay out of trouble, nothing like a lab in regards to energy and stamina.

My father in law breeds them. He's up near Dallas.

I'm sure they could be used for duck hunting - they're trainable hunting dogs with webbed feet after all - but they don't like sitting still for long and their coat is too short for being cold and wet very long unless they can run to heat themsleves up. A GSP is a dog that lives to run full blast though a field or point (from birth pretty much) and stare at something with laser intensity. They're beyond active. I'm sure some guys use them for duck blind duty, but mine would be awful for that.

The ultimate hunting dog. Just not the dog for sitting still in a blind to fetch a dead duck. Not mine at least

Braerwood in Shreveport is where I got mine. She shows, but her dogs hunt. I think she has a 4mth old female right now that she may be looking to place. Depends on what you want like wick says. Mine does a little duck and dove.... Don't have a bird hunting place, he loves the water.
I'm very picky with him with regards to temps on the duck side of things, so he did prolly 5-6 hunts with me last year.

I will tell you this. I'll run him 2 miles when I train and he comes back, gets water and grabs a dummy. Know what you are getting ....

He was actually from a rescue shelter up here in norcal. Still has his dewclaws as well. Our vet didn't see any need to go thru with all that.

Plus, I kinda like his whip tail. If he happens to break it while busting thru some brush hunting...then surgery it will be.

You aren't going to like a bloody tail after hunting that is slinging blood through the house...
