Any good places to put a kid on easy fish relatively close to BR

We were going to try Lake Ponchartrain bc of its proximity to BR, but with the wind and wave forecast for tomorrow that plan is out. I would like to give him more than just a boat ride, but I'm thinking that's all it might be. We have an 18 foot bay oat fwiw. Not opposed to freshwater, but pretty unfamiliar with it. This is really just for him and I don't care if it's catching trash fish or small fish bc he'll get pretty excited either way.

I don't want to speak for everyone, but I always fish out of Vince. That may be to far for what your doing, but I've never been and not caught the shite out of hard heads (We hate catching them). I can't speak to catching reds or specs right now as I've not been in a month or so, but again, you can catch trash fish pretty much anywhere there if your throwing live bait.

If you want to catch bull reds they are thick around Belle Pass at Fourchon.
Very short ride by boat. We could not get them to leave us alone on our last trip. They were clobbering the artificials under popping corks. Also can throw gold rattletraps near the jetties. Specks are hit and miss there but there are almost always a variety of other species if all you are looking for is some action for the kids. Lots of mackerel and blue fish as well but they will tear up your tackle.
Oh and tons of big gafttop catfish. they also go after artificials under popping corks big time and put up a good fight on light tackle.

Tony's seafood...
No but really we have been catching good reds at the power lines between south pass and madisonville. That would be the closest to BR

your right and it's a damn shame
there could easily be a couple of man made lakes or at least try to being false river back to where it was 25 years ago.

False River wouldn't be a bad option early in the morning. Fish with night crawlers unders a cork around the piers. You should be able to pick up a few catfish or bluegills. I would just suggest going as early as possible and getting of the water before the boat traffic picks up.
