This storm is gonna dump lots of rain down your way and it's supposed to dump massive amounts of snow on us. Just in our area, we're looking at 15"-19" of snow this weekend. And that's on top of the six inches we got today. Central Virginia (Shenandoah Valley) and Fredericksburg area are expecting up to 50 inches. That's unprecedented. Any snowmelt west of the Appalachians eventually drains to the Mississippi. I have no idea how much water is generated by that kind of snow melt, either. We are expecting massive power outages and major property damage here. Sure hope the forecasters miss this one, both for yall and us. Stay safe and prepared.

Taking from the internet.
[quote]At 32 degrees Fahrenheit the water to snow ratio is equivalent is roughly 1" of rain to 10" of snow. However, the colder the air, the higher the ratio. Therefore, at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, 1" of rain can produce as much as 40" of snow!!!!

Thanks for that ratio! Living up here in the mountains, and everyone who experiences snow a lot (that's you, RogerTheShrubber) we know that there is a "wet" snow and a "dry" snow. This is supposed to be a "wet" snow. That kind of snow collapses roofs, takes down trees and power lines, and causes a lot of flooding. I dread this weekend and the aftermath.

Stay safe and prepared.
We're getting hammered out here in CA too. It's been a nasty winter so far but the kind of winter we've needed to bust out of this drought.
