I still don't get it.

Bears are far more dangerous than snakes, but I'm assuming you guys just leave them the frick alone unless they're biting you, right?

Uh something tells me people encounter snakes exponentially more often than they encounter bears

Technically it is north Americas only venomous water snake. Killing one that is dangerous when you or your little ones encounter it is not that bad...but it's not always needed. Glad you and the fam are ok tho...they do have nasty bites.

I have some very dangerous looking butterflies and ladybugs lurking around my house if you feel you're brave enough to come over and shoot them as well.

Why the hell is he getting grief over killing a venomous snake? These things aren't going extinct anytime soon.

I'm trying to figure out this as well. Since these guys who are against killing are posting on the outdoors board, I'm sure none of them hunt or fish and kill those either. But I'm sure they only do it for the meat cause its the only way they can provide and feed their starving families

Snakebite deaths in the US are incredibly...and I mean extraordinarily rare.

There have only been 20 deaths since 1960, and the vast majority of these were deaths due to religious snake handlers and people trying to kill the snake (like the OP).

In other words, you would probably be doing more good by shooting skateboards, diving boards, and automobiles than killing snakes if your purpose is to reduce deaths.

It's not all about deaths. It's also about it killing your pets or sending a family member to the hospital.

Understand?

Hunting for food is fine and I enjoy it. Why are you so fond of killing just for the sake of killing?

Do you allow mosquitoes to finish their meal, then help them on their merry way?

Mosquitoes DO pose a serious threat to humans (unlike snakes). West Nile Virus, encephalitides...

I've been bitten by many mosquitoes and never gotten ill. I've been bitten by one venomous snake and required some extensive medical care.

When I'm down South, I'll gladly remember that and remove "fangs" from existence.
