Had a guy pulling some kids in front of me on Falgout canal sunday. I try to pass when its safe and the guy starts weaving back and forth in front of my boat...what an idiot. Some people shouldn't be allowed to operate a boat.

No they live in New Orleans. Dad is an attorney. Kids go to Christian Brothers. I wanna say Joseph was the youngest of 7 or 8 boys. Very sad.

Encountered a boat pulling tubers while on my yak Saturday. Apparently pulling kids in a tube gives you the right to do whatever the frick you want. Every single other boat slowed to a idle to pass (I was anchored up and fishing), this dude just blew right the frick past me.

The child who died went to St. Andrew's on Oak Street, uptown.

Not sure how fast some of those jet ski type of crafts can go, but we've recently seen some pushing what looked to be 60 on the Petit Caillou.

No worries. You were right on the count that the Schmidt's have several children so good chance they have them enrolled in multiple schools.

Fox News Nola just posted his picture on Facebook...

So sad. As several have said, I couldn't imagine being that Father right now...

Joseph played on my sons all star baseball team last summer and one of his other brothers plays on my sons soccer team. They have a few older boys that go to Jesuit. Good people and great kids. So sad. The Fox 8 news story just got me.

The mom is from Houma though and her brother and the child's grand father are both well known down here. Very tragic and i can't imagine how one could move on from something like this.

what a horrible thing. I've experienced a lot of death, but I don't think I could ever get over something like that, one of my kids, and honestly, my other kids would be the only thing stopping me from eating a bullet.

I think I know who his father is. We have a mutual friend in common. I hope he and his family can somehow get through this.

This is another reminder of how quickly it can all go to complete shite on you. Love your loved ones.

Just a terrible story

Hate to say it but it seems like the boat operator didn't use any common sense.

You just can't find better people. So so sad and so hard to think about. Luckily they have a large supportive family because they will need all of them during this time.

Tragic.

I wish that I wouldn't have even read this thread.

As a father if two boys, 7 and 10, I can't even begin to imagine having to go through that darkness.

Prayers sent.
