Its wild that so many militaries/armed forces still used a rimmed cartridge

Especially when looking at all the advancements weapon systems like aircraft have evolved. In WW2 planes were still propeller driven and 20 years later, the SR-71 was flying well past Mach 3 meanwhile firearms were/are still based on weapon designers long pass away.

Its the weirdest thing about firearms and ammo.

That cartridge began service almost 30 years before the M2 was designed
