To me, it was the worst possible outcome. They recovered both deer. Says to the kid, "See this is ok."
Second worst. He could have wounded and not recovered. Either way, I would have warned my kid off of that shot.

I usually agree with you on things, but I have to disagree with your statement that this was the worst case scenario. That kid will have a memory with his father he'll never forget. I'm sure they both learned a lesson. I think we all agree it wasn't a great shot to take, but i think the attack by you and others on the father is unwarranted. The father could be a far worse sportsman than this guy. Lighten up a little.

I think whats probably lost in all this is that had the video camera not been there they would have never known the second deer was hit and this whole controversy would have never happened.
They saw the video and noted that a second deer was wounded. They did the right thing and attempted to recover the deer. Good learning experience for the young man and the father for that matter.
EDIT: I suppose not finding the arrow would throw up a flag...

I get that it wasn't the optimal shot, but you have to remember that the father was looking through a camera and that always distorts depth perception and presents other optical illusions. We also don't know that the father didn't lecture the boy after he reviewed the tape later that night.
It's either that or the fact that they were from WV and just complete hillbillies and think it was great. We may never know which one it was
