Good buddies dad had his climber fail and he's pretty banged up. Don't know all the details yet, but don't trust a climber on its own. Not worth the risk.

Hope he is alright.

I have one when I go up a tree stand.

I'm a grown man at 38 with two kids and don't have a desire at all to be in a climber. I can remember my first climber being an Amacker Adjuster 25 years ago and never wore a harness all of those years.

Killed my first deer out of that very same heavy arse climber right around 20 years ago. I had no clue what a safety belt was. I was 11 or 12...shame on my parents.

To the OP, prayers up.

hate to hear that...hope he is doing ok.

I have had far too many friends hurt themselves badly using climbing stands...I no longer use them for that reason.

Knew a former co-worker who fell to his death, out of his stand.

Sorry to hear that, bud.

Another reason I prefer sticks and lock-on over a climber. More versatile, and forces you to wear a harness.

Sorry to hear about accident. I had an mama keep I bout for $20 as a defective 2nd out of there scrap pile. They just welded it together and sold it to me. I would climb slick hardass hickorys. I did sometimes have a belt around my waste and a rope to the tree. How I am still here has to be by the grace of God. What a dumbass I was

This is why I only hunt box stands and high fenced property.

Well. Older brother step out of 8 ft homemade box and missed ladder. Shattered ankle. Looked like a 7 iron. Been : years and between that and 2 surgeries and diabetes he at 59 will never be the same again. I guess we just need to be careful and not be to complacent

Ha, you guys really think lock ons are that much safer than climbers? Anytime you are hunting over 8 ft up you should be in a harness whether you are in a climber, loc on, box stand, ladder stand, etc.

My Lone Wolf Climber is the tGoat stand for the hunting I do. Get a legit 25-30 ft up the pines. But you are darn right I strap up my harness as soon as I get onto the tree all the way up and all the way down.

Same here. One thing my dad never taught me was safety. Had to learn that in my own.

Prayers to the op

What harness do you use. Looking for one to do just what your talking about. Unfortunately most of what I see is for once your in climber not for the movement up and down tree.

I always wear my Hunters safety system harness. What do you use while climbing? I always just hook up once I am done climbing.

I don't hunt up off of the ground anymore. I slipped and fell in my yard and broke my neck. You don't have to fall very far to really do some damage. Ground blinds for me from now on

There's not a great option, but honestly I haven't hunted hard in 2 years so I haven't looked for a better option in that time there may be some now. I just use one with a rope as opposed to a seat belt type strap and I've gotten good at going up and down moving it. Going down I'm usually so fast I always catch myself at least twice where I actually have to climb back up 6 inches or so to loosen the strap to move back down. Going up I just put it as high as I can reach and then climb once or twice usually and readjust. I do keep it a little looser while climbing, certainly looser than it is when I'm at my spot. It is a hastle at first, but after 4-5 climbs you get really good at it. It is second nature now. I had a couple slips and I feel so much safer now always locked in.

I don't think I was ever scared before I always had a harness on, but having a harness makes me a lot more comfortable and I feel like a better hunter. I literally never worry about my safety anymore. I put the rope around the tree at the point to where If I fell I'd only fall 3-4 inches before it caught me. There's been times bow hunting when I actually use the rope to lean around the tree as a sort of 3rd point of contact allowing both my hands free.

I still remember being in my college days in my lone wolf hand climber without a harness on a windy day in a pine probably at least 25 ft feet up and that dang tree was swaying probably 12 inches both ways. Lone wolf hand climbers have literally no bar above the seat, so you are completely exposed. That was the last day I didn't wear a harness, and probably one of the dumber things I've ever done hunting.

Wow, climber is my favorite way to hunt. No harness either.
