Anyone watched this? Worth a shite?

FYI: I put this on tOB, rather than M/TV, because the premise of the show is survival in the outdoors and would rather hear what this board thinks

if you can make your own bow drill and get a fire, build your own shelter and are successful with catching fish..you're ahead of most already.

This is the 3rd season. 1st > 2nd. Alan was a boss.

You don't even have to make a bow drill. Most bring a fire starter. If you are near water and are even minimally competent at catching fish you are good to go. The psychological aspect trips most of them up.

I have watched all seasons. I like it. I could do it during daylight hours, but those predators that come around at night would do it for me. There would be a pile of shite a mile high in my shelter. I don't know how the women handle that out there -- they are better women than me.

At least they are allowed a tarp and some gear.

Watched a few and enjoyed them. Hated the one where the lady hurt herself. I think she chopped her hand making kindling.

I've never watched but am going to tune in this season. Thanks for the replies. Just so I'm clear, they get to have some gear, are dropped off in the middle of no where, and have no contact with humans unless they hit the SOS button which results in their rescue and ends their "adventure". Is the point to last the longest? Do they win something ther than bragging rights?

Yes. Alan won the first season at @ 55 days.
2nd season was won @ 65 days.
500K to the winner (I think)

BTW, Alan made the show. Nowhere near as entertaining without him.

Yep. What sucks is that they never know how many people are left. So they are left thinking they may be out there forever. Only at the end do they come out and do a "routine medical exam" and then a loved one comes out of the woods and they tell them they won.

It would be more exciting if there were griz on the island. Apart from the animal dangers, it seems you would just emulate the conditions there (and if they keep that a secret you just learn how to deal w the elements), in preparation, and figure out the very best 10 items.

The not knowing how many are left is the big deal. That might make you crazy. Or getting physically sick. I'm sick a bitch when sick I'd tap out immediately.

Eta: wouldn't you assume a low-flying helicopter was someone being picked up?

Eta: why the hell are some people wasting resources and energy boiling water that comes from fast-moving streams? I'd roll the dice with giardia in a place that isolated--reports wilderness-contracted giardia is actually very very rare.

I'm only on S01S02, but I'm pretty hooked.

It's alright. I kinda get hooked on it for the sole fact of seeing if I could do it. I think I can, wife disagrees lol.

It's worth the watch. Interesting to see the mind dictate to these people what theyre truly capable of doing.
